Casal Garcia

Casal Garcia – the authentic charm of Portuguese grapes
Casal Garcia has its beginnings in 1939, in Portugal, when the French winemaker Eugène Hélisse was on a train journey from Douro to Porto. Along the way, he was captivated by the unique vineyards at Quinta da Aveleda, owned by Roberto Guedes. Eugène joined the Aveleda vineyard, and to give the wine bottles a distinctive design, he used to wrap them in lace handkerchiefs—a detail that still appears on the labels of the Portuguese brand today. The name of the winery was given by the vineyard workers, who were called Casal Garcia.

The Casal Garcia vineyards remain in the Vinho Verde wine region, within the small Portuguese town of Penafiel, which hosts an area dedicated to wine tourism, Quinta da Aveleda. Surrounded by gardens and many other attractions, the vineyards offer numerous grape varieties typical of Portugal.
